Efficient Cylinders with Reduced Weight
For particularly lightweight hydraulic cylinders, we offer the option of using aluminum and carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP). Aluminum has a significantly lower density than steel and is therefore well-suited for lightweight designs. However, steel cylinders cannot simply be replaced with aluminum on a 1:1 basis: High-strength aluminum alloys are not fully weldable, and their notch sensitivity is significantly higher.
Lightweight construction with aluminum requires a precise understanding of the force distributions within the material. Using FEM simulations, we optimize the design to use material precisely where it is needed and to avoid oversizing.
CFRP reinforcements are also possible. Thanks to the material’s anisotropic behavior, forces can be absorbed precisely in the directions in which they occur, further increasing the cylinders’ efficiency.
In this way, we enable lightweight construction options that combine low weight with high strength and durability.
